The book is aptly named as it does make sailboat electrics simplified. However, this contents of this book are identical to the electronics chapters in the book "Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual". If you are only interested in electrical systems, this is the right book for you. If you are looking for a more complete sailboat maintenance book go with this book,Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual: Including Inspecting the Aging Sailboat, Sailboat Hull and Deck Repair, Sailboat Refinishing, Sailbo.
I've read them all, you should too. Don Casey is a cruising writer most cruisers are familiar with. His excellent SailNet articles are a must reads. Mr. Casey really does simplify boat electronics in this easy to understand book that is good for both novice and old salt alike.
FANTASTIC book for the boat owner who knows just enough about his/her boat's electrics to be dangerous. The descriptions and analogies make the mysterious world of boating electrical systems a whole lot clearer. Technical jargon is kept to a minimum - it's a book you could take to bed and be entertained as well as educated.
I had next to zero knowledge about electricity. All of these were completely foreign to me before reading this book. This book completely changed that. It showed me the importance of mapping out electrical requirements, how amps are affected by wire lengths and how to determine wire sized needed for jobs. You'll be surprised at the brevity of the descriptions of things and how they all inter-relate. I now feel comfortable tackling the wiring of my 28' foot.
The reviews did not disappoint. This book has very clear illustrations and covers all of the essential information to understand boat electrical systems. I have not read the AC sections since that does not apply to my single engine outboard powerboat, but the DC information is very good.
